Influenced by Tokyo's department stores, Swiss food emporiums and Parisian gastro-boutiques, John Lewis has opened its first Foodhall in London.
The 17,000 sq ft shop in the basement of the Oxford Street store provides seasonal specialities and gourmet ready-to-heat meals, as well as everyday groceries.
The Foodhall, for which Waitrose is providing "food expertise and taking responsibility for supplier sourcing and buying", provides the last piece in the jigsaw to make the store a one-stop shop for all customers' "entertaining needs".
