What are the favourite foods that Polish customers will be looking for this Christmas?
As the festive season approaches, giving customers a taste of home is one way of creating an emotional bond that will have them coming back. While many Poles would cook most dishes from scratch, many younger ones still want the comforts of their homeland but have less time.
Seasonal delicacies includes Christmas pierniki - honey cakes in various shapes - while Christmas trees usually sport shiny apples, walnuts and chocolate shapes. The main festive meal is served on Christmas Eve - carp or pike with sauce, cream or jelly. Traditionally, no meat or alcohol is served - although many Poles bend the latter rule.
Traditional food includes oplatek (bread pressed with a holy picture on the surface), barszcz (beetroot soup with mushrooms), uszka (dumplings stuffed with mushrooms), mushroom soup, cabbage stuffed with mushrooms, sweet dumplings with poppy seeds and a compote drink made from prunes, dried pears and apples.
Pastries and cakes play a big role, including poppy-seed twists, honey gingerbreads and a dessert made of sweet poppy seeds, honey, raisins and nuts, served with crisp tarts.
