The Government has announced a £2m fund to support retailers who work with African suppliers to bring products into the UK.
International Development Minister Gareth Thomas, announcing the Food Retail Challenge Fund, called on major retailers to use their purchasing power to help developing countries, and said the £2m funding was available to "encourage innovative projects". He also said buying from developing countries allowed retailers to "meet the increasing consumer thirst to buy ethically" and will help communicate to consumers how their purchases help small suppliers.
