Asda triumphed at The Grocer Gold Awards, stealing the availability award from last year's winner Morrisons, and once again bagging the pricing award.
However, Morrisons was compensated by being crowned Grocer of the Year following a brilliant 12 months when the retailer repaired the damage sustained following the Safeway acquisition. Its new brand identity, a TV campaign, and new lines culminated in an amazing performance over the Christmas period.
Asda was all smiles at the London event, with retail director Andy Clarke collecting the availability award for an improved performance since Christmas, and trading director Darren Blackhurst (pictured) picking up the pricing award that the multiple has bagged consecutively for the past 11 years.
On availability, Asda recorded only 13 out of stocks in the Grocer 33 survey since Christmas, and had a high number of full baskets in April and May. Asda's average price for the 33 goods measured over the year to March 2008 was £45.75, ahead of Morrisons in second place with a £46.72 average.
Tesco was once again Britain's Favourite Supermarket, based on Nielsen's Homescan PanelView Survey of Attitudes to Retailers.
Has the number of customer complaints about the price of goods increased recently?
