International Development Minister Gareth Thomas has launched a £2m scheme intended to help more African-produced foods reach UK supermarket shelves.
The scheme "will team food producers with major UK retailers to increase the flow of African food products to the UK in innovative ways that work for both parties".
Retailers teaming with African suppliers will bid for money from the Food Retail Industry Challenge Fund, which they will then have to match. An example of projects might be helping an African producer meet European certifications and supermarket standards.
